Event Details

On January 28th the Pinellas County District of the Florida Nurses Association will be holding it'a annual Legislative forum.  The purpose of this forum is to give nurses the opportunity to meet with State and Federal legislators (and candidates) and discuss issues that are vital to nursing and the health of the citizens of Florida.

Each year we strive to ensure that nurses voices are heard by our elected representatives.  Traditionally a majority of the Pinellas elected officials attend this meeting.  Attendees are seated with the Legislators and issues concerning nursing are discussed.

This year 3 key legislative issues are on the agenda.  The first is House Bill 1986, which prevents health care providers from being licensed in the State of Florida if they have been convicted of any felony in the past 15 years.  This legislation has disproportionally affected nurses.

The second key topic will be discussion of prescriptive authority of controlled substances for nurse practitioners.  Florida is one of two states that do not allow nurse practitioners to prescribe controlled substances. (Alabama is the other.)  This despite a Florida Senate report that states they can safely do so.

The third key issue to be discussed is a nurse staffing bill being advanced by the FLorida Nurses Association.

This event is always popular and sells out quickly.  Reserve your spot today!

The event include a buffet dinner, dessert and beverages.  (Cash Bar provided.)
